The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with the “Doctor Europaeus” certification is awarded by the University upon request of the PhD candidate concerned. It is not an academic degree with supranational legal value, nor is it a qualification awarded by international institutions.

a) the thesis is defended after the submission of a positive evaluation of the dissertation by at least two professors or researchers belonging to two institutions located in two different countries within the European geographical area, other than the country in which the thesis is defended;
b) at least one member of the examination committee belongs to an academic institution in a European country different from that in which the thesis is defended;
c) part of the thesis defence is conducted in one of the official languages of the European geographical area, other than the language of the country in which the thesis is defended;
d) part of the research presented in the thesis has been carried out during a research stay of at least three months, which may be non-consecutive, in a European country different from the country of enrolment and origin of the PhD candidate.
